我和我的姥爷 (me and my grandad)

me and my grandad is a personal meditation on absence, strength, and imagined intimacy. The work began as handwritten letters for those in my life - reflections on relationships, identity, culture and belonging - which were transformed into paper mâché and sculpted into Chinese characters spelling the title. Adorned with paper flowers, rope and leaves, and finally coated in white paint, the canvas becomes a burial and a rebirth. The whiteness conceals, preserves, and reimagines. Though I only lived with my grandad in my early childhood, he symbolises my bloodline, my roots, and the paradox of a love that is both deeply felt and fundamentally unknowable.
