88 compressed traumas

A small table with small sheets of paper, coloured pens and a paper shredder was set in Paddington, Sydney. Along with this was a handwritten note asking passersby to write down what it is that is hard to say, then feeding it into the paper shredder.

The table was left unattended for seven days, and collected the traumas of 88 individuals, now transformed into a confetti of the unspoken. These shredded traumas where then used to make a single paper fire-log that was merely 10cm in height, 2.1cm in radius and 86g in weight.

The fire-log was set alight at the same site which the traumas were collected. It burnt slowly, gradually diminishing, and eventually transcended its tangible form to become inseparable from the air around us. A reminder that no one walks the path of vulnerability alone.
